Things to Do in Mishawaka, Indiana
Nicknamed the Princess City, Mishawaka is a diverse community first settled in the 1830s. The city was known for its rich supply of bog iron deposits, making it an extremely popular destination for miners and for industry in general. Now home to over 48,000 people, Mishawaka has prospered thanks to an interesting Midwestern culture and a bright community.

Mishawaka is located on the very northern edge of Indiana, close to Chicago and the Great Lakes. This is one of the reasons industry flourished there, as waterways provided easy access for shipping, while deposits left by ancient swamps and other ecosystems provided the area with especially rich soil and minerals. The city is also the principle city of the South Bend-Mishawaka Metro Area, which means there is plenty to do.

Beautiful parks dominate the cityscape, including the famous Beutter Park and Battell Park. Beutter was recently built, with close proximity to the river, bridges, underwater lights, and unique sculptures and gardens. The Battell Park was built by the WPA and features a band shelter and a terraced rock garden. If you love vibrant scenery, stop by Mishawaka.

The city is also home to a historic Carnegie Library, which is actually now a private residence. Other historic buildings include the Beiger Mansion, initially constructed in 1903 and restored in the 1970s after a fire. Now, it operates as a cozy bed-and-breakfast.

Looking for a bite to eat? Stop by any one of Mishawaka’s famous restaurants and breweries.
